I don't get motion sick. When I first get in, the hammock does rock a bit and when you roll-over it also rocks a bit; in both circumstances it stops rocking quickly. I always found the motion comforting. I'd say try one out and hope for the best - if it bothers you, return it :-)

I should also say that hammocks are good for back sleeps and side sleepers, unfortunately you can't sleep face down (the body just doesn't bend that way!)Jonathonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17822868554050396650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229056184972147889.post-19642373291266902312013-01-08T00:15:05.585-05:002013-01-08T00:15:05.585-05:00Interesting post, Jon.

You told me to get a tarp tent - and I did that too before adding the hammock (which was one of the best decisions of the trip)!
Yeah, I didn't include the 'Inns' from the northeast in general in my condemnation of hostels. I loved those from GA to ME.

2. RE: Staying in town. Agreed, my friend. I needed a shower and real food every 5 days or so, and was glad I had enough money to do so. One thing I definitely disagree with you on is your stance on hostels. The first third of the hike, I was anti-hostel for the same reasons (dirty & crowded). But then, somewhere in VA, they started getting really nice. The ones we stayed in all had good beds and clean sheets, were surprisingly clean, and many times we got a private room without even asking! Plus, they often offer internet access, free food, free rides, and kitchen privileges. Some hostels, of course, are still dirty and icky. But talk to other hikers and get a feel for which ones are good.

3. RE: Gear, setting dates, and money. I enjoyed learning about your trials and tribulations hiking the Appalachian Trail as we all ate our lunches taking in the beautiful mountain views. I hope you are finding the inspiration to continue on your adventure. You are doing what I wished I'd had the gumption to do when I was younger! Please take care and keep on going! It's strange but I feel more at home in this area than I did where I grew up, simply because I knew I didn't belong there from an early age. I will never forget where I came from, but it really is a great thing when you find somewhere you belong or someone you belong with, I should say, since they become your 'home.' Still, I'm sure life will take us all to some exciting places in our time.
